The Escalator

The escalator was invented to move large numbers of people from one floor to another, in a faster and more efficient way. Escalators are electrically powered, driven by chain and sprocket, and held in the proper plane by two tracks. As the treads approach the landing, they pass through a comb device. This comb device is a deflection switch that is designed to cut off power if an object becomes jammed between the thread and comb. Most escalators move at a rate of 120 feet per minute. Escalators can take people up and down.

Testimonial:Using an escalator instead of stairs, has really changed my shopping experience. It allows me to shop longer. If I need to go upstairs in a mall or a big store, using an escalator saves my energy and makes my legs not as tired compared to stairs. This allows me to have more energy and be able to shop longer.
